Hi there, this is a great concept but I feel it is important to point out that a few of the cafes you have mentioned are not selling 'certified' Fairtrade coffee. For example Ramsey House (photo above), Huckleberry and the Ballroom (listed above) all serve Revive Espresso - which although is marketed as a 'Fairtrade' coffee is not in fact certified. There are several other such brands such as Ripe and Emporio who have 'Fairtrade' blends but which do not carry the FLO's (Fairtrade Labelling Organisation) certification. It is important that there be a distinction between those coffee companies who go to the trouble and expense of producing a certified traceable coffee to those who merely claim to.
Good job on the website, I look forward to seeing it develop and to Wellington being the first 'Fairtrade City' in NZ.

Speaking of Events...for all those returning to Uni this week come and check out Just Action (Victoria's on campus social jutice group) and the campaign to make VIC a fair trade uni, as part of the Make Wellington Fair Trade campaign.

We are having a stall at the trimester 2 clubs day on Kelburn Campus, Maclaurin Foyer 11-2pm this week (starting July 13th), so come have a chat, sign the petition, grab some bummer stickers and have a look around.

See you there!

thehinitiative sell some fair trade cotton tees too! They feature limited edition designs by NZ design talent, and all the tees fundraise for their charity partners e.g. Mental Health Foundation! thehinitiative's all about looking great while doing good for others & good causes - the reason why it got started in the first place! : ) Check out lookgreatdogood.co.nz

I totally agree with the using Trade Aid for pressies comment, I do it all the time! Make sure you tell people they're from Trade Aid too - they love it! They can feel like they're doing their own little bit for society every time they use their gift (and they'll love you for it!)

Trade AId is perfect for birthdays, christmas or thank you presents. It sounds corny but you're giving more than once! Your family and friends will get unique hand-crafted goods and you can feel good about shopping! Everyone I know are probably sick of my trade aid gifts but I keep on giving them - cause they're great. Plus they have some great stuff or kids too!

It is good to see church communities taking up the fair trade advocacy. A simple step from us can make a huge difference to farmers producing tea, coffee, sugar, chocolate, rice - the list gets longer.
